Gloria Wille is a Crochet and Knit Couture designer and artist. In her work, she combines classical crochet and knit patterns with contemporary designs to develop a new form of fashion perspectives. Focussing on sustainability, leftover fabrics, old wedding gowns or recycled yarns often find their way into Gloria Wille's collections. She adds and combines through crochet, making every piece unique. Her main goal is to revive the once presumed dead handcraft, transforming it into ornate and to detail Couture.
As an artist, she uses crochet as her weapon of choice to provoke, to hold a mirror up, start a debate... and sometimes just for creating a utopian fairytale. Gloria Wille draws her inspiration mostly from music:
Listening to music gives me the freedom to escape into the unknown, to let go. It gives me the chance to float along, and follow my crochet hook wherever it takes me. I'm listening to a song, and a shape, colours or a pattern pop up. From there on out I give in, use the mannequin as my canvas and let both my mind and my crochet hook wander.
Most of the time I have no idea how things turn out when I start.
As a costume designer, Gloria Wille has worked on contemporary short films.
Her designs have been shown in feature films, art exhibitions and pop up stores. For more info visit the Portfolio section. For her work as a costume designer, Milliner and Textile Artist visit Film, TV and Performance.
